During a delightful Sicilian-themed afternoon at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Planeta Winery recently introduced its renovated wine collection, La Segreta. The evening started with a unique herbal tasting, followed by a light lunch and wine experience. This culinary journey celebrated both Planeta and its commitment to spreading the benefits of native plants around the world.

La Segreta herbal and wine-tasting experience
To our surprise, we started by embarking on a captivating herbal-tasting journey. Under the expert guidance of Alessio Planeta, a renowned name in the wine industry and the dedicated CEO and Chief Winemaker of Planeta, we explored a variety of unique herbs and their flavors. Medicinal herbs, are a key element in the message behind the La Segreta wine collection. Mr. Planeta shared details on how his family members have used herbal medicines throughout the times. Those memories have stayed with him. Hence, he wanted to share the experience and spread wide with different cities worldwide. According to Mr. Planeta, you only really know a region when you know its native plants. Hence, the native plants of Sicily were the thought that redefined La Segreta’s new labels. This creative approach infused each bottle with the unique flavors and aromas of the region.

The evolution of La Segreta
La Segreta, embodies Planeta’s commitment to quality and tradition, aims to capture the essence of the terroir where its wines are produced. The new labels, a delicate bouquet of herbal and medicinal flowers, are a testament to our dedication. La Segreta wines, the quality value wines of Planeta, deliver a light, crisp, and elegant profile across their different offerings. Each bottle is a touch of the Mediterranean and a celebration of our rich history in winemaking, a promise of exceptional taste and quality.
Production location
La Segreta wines are crafted in Sicily, Italy.
Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, is a place of enchantment. Nestled just off the ‘toe’ of Italy’s ‘boot,’ it boasts a rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and a vibrant culture. This unique blend of nature and heritage infuses every bottle of La Segreta, making it a true reflection of its origin.
Geographical indication
The wines associated with La Segreta carry the geographical indication of Sicilia (Italian for Sicily) DOC.
Sicilia DOC includes small and large wineries dedicated to creating exceptional red and white Sicilian wines deeply rooted in their places of origin. A Sicilia DOC wine guarantees quality and upholds the island’s ancient winemaking traditions, passed down through generations. The La Segreta wine collection, with its rich history and heritage, is a testament to this tradition. Only the finest wines from Sicily bear the Sicilia DOC label, and La Segreta is proud to be among them.

A True Sicilian afternoon
Following the immersive experience, we savored varietal wines such as Grillo and Nero d’Avola and two blends of native and international grape varieties, all organically harvested at the Planeta estate.
These wines are a harmonious blend of aromas and flavors, meticulously crafted to offer a rich and gratifying experience.
