Champagne Pommery unveils Apanage 1874 at The Armory Show in New York City.

Art and Champagne, both requiring a mastery of the craft, were beautifully showcased at the Armory Show. The Armory Show, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, provided the perfect backdrop for showcasing Pommery’s latest masterpiece: Apanage 1874. It was a privilege to taste firsthand the dedication and skill that went into creating the exclusive cuvee of Champagne Pommery.

The 30th edition of the Armory Show

Hosted at the Jacob Javits Center, the Armory Show hosted its most sought-after art fair. With beautiful elegance and unprecedented designs was executed this year. Artist were in attendance to showcase their masterpieces all through the convention center. Purchases were made instantly for some sought-after artworks that were truly stunning.

Champagne Pommery Apanage 1874

As soon as you approached the middle of the convention center, you were invited to step into the blue carpet. This took you into the elegantly decorated Champagne Pommery Lounge, where the Apanage 1874 was featured as a masterpiece.

It was a privilege to experience the Apanage 1874, which perfectly embodies my favorite Champagne style. Apanage 1874 is Brut style with less residual sugar, persistent, tiny, and not overpowering bubbles, crisp and robust with many layers, and on the drier side. Furthermore, the blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier, and 15% reserve wines from the 2012, 2015, and 2018 harvests created multilayered flavors of lemon Meyer, hints of honey and toasted brioche. Each note was a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship and dedication of the Pommery winemakers.

This cuvee was crafted to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Madame Pommery’s introduction of Brut Champagne. In other words, Apanage 1874 is a work of art commemorating the foundation year and the journey through Pommery from its legacy. Madame Pommery’s innovative spirit, a testament to the brand’s commitment to creating exceptional cuvees, continues to inspire us all to admire the ensemble of the Cuvee Apanage 1874.

Vranken Pommery leadership

Nowadays, the leaders behind Champagne Pommery are Nathalie and Pauline Vranken. These two remarkable women were present at the event; meeting them was a true highlight. Curious enough, I asked Pauline why specific reserve wines were included in the blend for Apanage 1874. She mentioned “Winemakers considered the anniversary ahead of time and included truly remarkable vintages on this ensemble”.

Pommery’s deep-rooted connection to the arts is evident. Unveiling the Apanage 1874 at one of the most important art fairs worldwide speaks to its commitment to fine arts. Furthermore, contemporary artists continue to inspire and delight.

As a champagne enthusiast, I am continuously impressed by legendary Champagne House’s ability to blend tradition with modernity. Pommery is dedicated to crafting exceptional champagnes while honoring its heritage. Witnessing the convergence of art and Champagne in New York City was a delightful experience. Moreover, enjoying the Apanage 1874 in a truly artistic fashion was a testament to Madame Pommery’s enduring legacy.
