Macari Vineyards’ Commitment to Sustainability and Holistic Farming

I am thrilled to congratulate Macari Vineyards on their recent win at the Unity Awards! Their significant contributions to the Long Island wine industry have truly earned them the Winery Award. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the dedication and passion of the entire Macari Vineyards team.

I have personally witnessed their outstanding service at their Mattituck location, including their newly re-opened Meadowlark Norfork, where I also tied the knot. What sets Macari Vineyards apart is their ecological and holistic approach to wine-making. They ensure healthy plants and grapes through living soil, and each step in the process contributes to the final product’s quality.

Macari Vineyards: From Vine to Glass

As for their wines, I have tried a few, and my personal favorites are the Syrah and dos Aguas. However, my current favorite is their HORSES, which is a Cabernet Franc Pet Nat (“pétillant naturel”) sparkling wine. First produced in 2013, HORSES is consistently in high demand, and it’s always challenging to find it in stock.

To make HORSES, the grapes are destemmed, left on the skins for 24 hours, gently pressed, and then fermented slowly throughout the harvest. After being racked and bottled in early November, the fermentation is completed in the bottle before being disgorged after five months.

This particular sparkling wine consistently delivers excellent quality year after year. I love that it is made naturally and highly refreshing, offering the red fruit notes with a hint of minerality characteristic of Long Island Wines, with persistent but subtle bubbles that are highly addictive.

The Macari Vineyards team has put tremendous effort into benefiting not only their vineyard but also the Long Island industry as a whole. I am excited to see them continue their success. Once again, congratulations to the team at Macari Vineyards!
