5 Wines for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a long holiday. You usually mingle, watch the game. then mingle again, then you have a feast! Thanksgiving can last hours. Hence, I am recommending 5 wines for Thanksgiving that can endure the extended celebration. The wines I am recommending this year that showcase bright acidity pair with an array of snacks and traditional Thanksgiving Fare.

Wines for Thanksgiving: Start with Vinho Verde, Anjos de Portugal Vinho Verde SRP $7.99

With aromas of green apple and lemon peel and fresh acidity on the palate, Anjos the Portugal is a dry white that is very easy to drink and enjoy by itself or with light fare and snacks. At a perfect price point, you can buy as much as you need to welcome your guests and impress them from the beginning.

Pietro Nera “La Novella” Nebbiolo Bianco SRP $19.99

Nebbiolo is almost always used to produce red wines that are well structured (high acidity and tannin), and as they develop, they show dried rose and red fruit characters. In this case, the juice is pressed from the skins and seeds and fermented as a white wine. I tried this wine during the summer, and I loved the medium body and structure. It is the perfect wine to serve during the main course if the guests prefer white. In addition, it has the body to pair with turkey and stuffing and leave you ready for the ham and green beans.

Saget La Perriere Pinot Noir SRP $14.99

Pinot Noir is a crowd pleaser but La Petite Perriere Pinot Noir is impressive. It has a long finish not often expected from a Pinot Noir. Instead, it showcases the red fruits and a distinctive blueberry jam on the palate and a finish that will linger and help you keep eating and enjoying Thanksgiving plates!

Old Soul Saracina Cabernet Sauvignon SRP $26.99

Dark Chocolate and Black Currant on the aromas on the palate. Medium Tannic Wine that will be better enjoyed if decanted. Great acidity to complement the traditional Thanksgiving fare, especially towards the main course and dessert.

Do not forget the pie! Sherry and Pie is the perfect pairing, Gonzalez Byass Alfonso Sherry Oloroso SRP $27

5 Wines for Thanksgiving list will not be completed without a dessert wine. Would you mind going beyond the Pumpkin Pie and serving Apple Pie with Gonzalez Byass Alfonso Oloroso? Produced from 100% Palomino grapes, this dry Sherry is significantly drier than Apple Pie, but the toasty flavors pair nicely with the sugar to provide a contrasting taste that averts a cloying effect. The nutty character of Alfonso pairs perfectly with the cinnamon and clove spices of the Apple Pie.
