Exploring Colorado’s Grand Valley AVA

Have you heard about Grand Valley AVA?

Let’s explore Colorado’s Wine Country: Ordinary Fellow Wines in Grand Valley AVA

Grand Valley AVA is one of the top Colorado’s Wine Country regions. This picturesque region boasts over 25% of Colorado’s wineries and an impressive two-thirds of the state’s vineyard acreage. Interestingly, the alkaline soils of Colorado’s wine country are more similar to those found in Europe rather than the acidic soils typically found in California. As a result, the wines produced in Grand Valley AVA have a unique flavor profile that resembles their European counterparts, making them a real treat for wine enthusiasts.

The Grand Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Colorado is a true haven for wine lovers. The region boasts some of the most exquisite wineries that produce some of the finest wines in the country. Recently, I had the pleasure of discovering one such gem – Ordinary Fellow Wines– and I was thoroughly impressed.

As I sipped on their delightful riesling, I couldn’t help but be transported to the charming vineyards of Alsace, France.

I couldn’t help but admire their dedication to producing exceptional wines that capture the region’s essence and excel in delivering a genuinely refreshing and elegant profile.

Founded by the renowned winemaker Ben Parsons, Ordinary Fellow Wines has quickly become a popular destination for wine enthusiasts. The winery’s location is in the Palisade’s historic United Fruit Growers COOP peach packing shed, adding to its charm and appeal. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with friendly staff always eager to assist with tastings and provide recommendations.

Named after Ben’s favorite British pub, The Ordinary Fellow Wines is anything but ordinary. The winery’s mission is to showcase the world-class wines that Colorado has to offer. From the vineyard to the bottle, each wine is crafted with the utmost care and precision. It is truly an elevated experience that any wine lover would appreciate.

Their labels are eye catching and already have my attention. In regards of the wine, so far I have just tried their crisp Riesling, which got me in awe. I got a pleaseant surprise, because of the aromatic profile. The wine had a lovely aroma with notes of citrus and honey and a perfectly balanced acidity that left a crisp, refreshing finish on the palate. It stoods up at the crisp and elegant profile of a Riesling that pairs seamelessly with thai food, sea bass, or even grilled European sea bass, which I love!

I might review they Syrah and Pinot Noir from their recent vinatages any time soon. But I can consider a trip to the area. With its stunning landscape and thriving wine industry, the Grand Valley AVA is worth a visit for anyone looking to expand their wine horizons. This advice also applies to me since, at high-altitude vineyards, there must be breathtaking scenery that surrounds you.
