Beyond the Buzz: Let’s Dive into the World of No-Alcohol and Low-Alcohol Sparkling Wines

As a wine lover (and married to one!), I understand the allure of a celebratory toast. But what happens when you’re pregnant, cutting back on alcohol, or simply seeking a lighter, non-alcoholic option? Trust me, I’ve been there! During my pregnancy, I craved something more sophisticated than juice or soda. I had a hard time finding mocktails, and when I looked at the liquor store, only a few options were available. I’m thrilled to see the beverage industry finally catching up with some truly exciting alternatives.
As you know, I appreciate the Joy of Wine. I understand this is not a fleeting trend—low- and no-alcohol drinks are here to stay! And for good reason. These options allow everyone to participate in social gatherings and celebrations, offering the joyful ritual of a sparkling drink and making our celebrations more inclusive.
Sparkling Alternatives: My Top Picks for Low-Alcohol Bubbly
If you are like me and you are also curious to explore the world of no-alcohol sparkling wines, check out a few of my recent favorites:
Freixenet Alcohol-Removed White Wine
Yes, you read that right! Freixenet, a renowned name in the sparkling wine world, now offers an alcohol-removed version.
I recently tried it at a family brunch and was pleasantly surprised.

It was unexpectedly dry, with just a touch of white fruits and citrus but not overpowering. It iss a decent option for a festive, alcohol-free toast. It’s readily available and a great introduction to this category.
No & Low Alcohol Sparkling Chardonnay

The no- and low-alcohol category is growing and becoming more creative!
The Sparkling Chardonnay from No & Low Alcohol and loved it. It has all the rich flavors of a typical Chardonnay without alcohol. The wine is medium-bodied and dry, with a nice balance of acidity. You can taste refreshing notes of tart green apple, unripened pear, lime zest, and kiwi, all coming together for a flavorful and lasting finish.
Maschio Zero White Sparkling
If you are an avid reader of this blog or a follower on Instagram, you know I adore a good Prosecco. That crisp, celebratory sparkle just makes everything better, doesn’t it? Well, I’ve just discovered a little secret that lets us enjoy that bubbly celebratory drink anytime, without the alcohol!

This Zero Alcohol Sparkling Wine is an absolute gem. It captures the bright, refreshing soul of a fabulous Prosecco DOC but clocks in at a chic 0.0% ABV. Seriously, you won’t miss the booze one bit!
On the nose, it’s all sunshine and sophistication. Think gorgeous citrus and delicate floral notes. Then, you take a sip, and those lively, energetic bubbles dance on your tongue, leaving you feeling utterly refreshed.
My Top Picks for Spritz with No-Low Alcohol
When it comes to sparkling wines, they offer a refreshing sip on their own and the versatility to enhance your cocktail creations. With their effervescence and vibrant flavors, they serve as an exquisite base for a variety of cocktails. In this spirit, I’m excited to share my top recommendations for sparkling wines that are ideal for crafting delightful spritzers.
Mionetto Aperitivo Alcohol-Free

Mionetto, widely recognized for its Prosecco, also offers an alcohol-free aperitivo. This stylish option provides another delicious way to enjoy the celebratory spirit without the alcohol content. I love that it is ready to drink, but you can also add some sparkling water and a lemon or orange wedge. It has a prominent bitter root flavor that resembles the flavor of the alcoholic Aperol liquor. Definitely chill thoroughly before serving or add ice. Just like traditional sparkling wines, low-alcohol options taste best when well-chilled.
Riunite Lambrusco
I have a long history with Riunite Lambrusco. This was my entry wine back in my twenties as a college student in Mexico. It was good to try it again nowadays as a sommelier. Having an open mind over different sweetness levels is very important. Hence, this is a great entry wine to drink solo. With an ABV of just 8%, Riunite Lambrusco is a fantastic choice for those seeking a lighter indulgence. On the other hand, this naturally sweet, Italian sparkling red wine is incredibly versatile. It’s perfect, chilled or over ice, and its fruity profile shines in a refreshing spritz. (Check out my go-to recipe below!)
The Riunite Lambrusco Spritz.

Ingredients:
A splash of lemonade or a squeeze of lemon
1 part Riunite Lambrusco
1 part Maschio Prosecco DOC
Garnish with a strawberry for a sophisticated twist on your next toast.
Bellini Cipriani
I met Tomasso Casara, the grandson of Arrigo Cipriani, founder of the Cipriani restaurants, over the iconic Bellini poured in their restaurant since 1948. The Bellini originated during WWII and is now a staple in Ready To Drink. Talk about a multigenerational family treasure that has evolved to meet the consumer’s current needs, but that preserves their love for authentic flavors and carefully crafted drinks.

The Bellini Cipriani, made with Mediterranean white peaches, contains only 5.5% alcohol and pairs wonderfully with tuna tartare, vegetables, and cheese. It’s like taking a trip to Venezia in a glass.
Embrace the Fizz: Tips for Enjoying No and Low-Alcohol Sparkling Wines.
Non-alcoholic wines need to be served at the right temperature, just as alcoholic wines. Glassware, serving size, and garnishes are also very important to consider to enhance your experience with non-alcoholic and low-alcohol sparkling wines. To summarize, here are a few tips to be the hostesses with the most when pouring non-alcohol and allow-alcohol sparkling wines.
- Chill Thoroughly: Just like traditional sparkling wines, low-alcohol options taste best when well-chilled.
- Elevate with Garnishes: Add a touch of elegance with fresh fruit garnishes like berries, citrus slices, or even herbs like mint or rosemary.
- Explore Cocktails: Don’t be afraid to experiment! Low-alcohol sparkling wines can be used to create delicious and refreshing cocktails. (Remember the Riunite Lambrusco Spritz recipe above!)
- Food Pairings: These lighter options often pair beautifully with a broader range of foods, from salads and appetizers to lighter main courses and desserts.
