Rosé and Food Pairing Recommendations
Each bottle in our report of the 2024 vintage recommendations has been meticulously paired with food. This combination transforms every bite with deliciousness. Your taste buds will awake, thank me later. These premium rosé wines are grouped by their defining styles, making it easier to discover your next favorite sip.
The Epitome of Elegance Pale & Dry Provençal-Style Rosés
These rosés are characterized by their delicate pale pink hue. They have crisp acidity and subtle red berry and floral notes. These features make them the benchmark for dry, refreshing elegance. Their light color often comes from minimal skin contact during winemaking, preserving a delicate aromatic profile. They are born for al fresco dining and sunny afternoons.
Invivo X, SJP Rosé 2024 (Provence, France).

The 2024 vintage in Provence was, by many accounts, promising and ideal. A mild winter and a perfectly balanced spring (in terms of rain and temperature) led to even flowering. A sunny, moderate summer ensured slow, gradual ripening. Crucially, beneficial summer storms provided just enough humidity, leading to a harvest of healthy, flavorful, and aromatically rich grapes. We can summarize the 2024 as a vintage of great finesse. Invivo X has a brilliant, pale salmon appearance, hinting at its delicate nature. The aroma is clean and precise, with subtle red berry and floral notes. On the palate, it offers a crisp, dry experience. There is a refreshing finish. It showcases excellent balance and typicity for the Provençal style.
Pairing Perfection: Classic Caesar salad (heavy on the anchovies) or grilled lamb with ‘herbes de Provence’.
The Pale Rosé—Provence, France

The Pale by Sacha Lichine, a rosé that has been standing as the embodiment of luxury, elegance, and style since it was first crafted in 2021.
Like its Provençal counterparts, The Pale Rosé benefits from the excellent 2024 vintage conditions. Winemakers reported an “ideal climatic year for quality harvests,” resulting in wines that are “delicate, aromatic, and fresh.” The renowned terroir, coupled with meticulous viticulture, allowed for an optimal harvest.
Tasting notes: an expressive wine with subtle, fruity notes that hint at peach and pink grapefruit. This wine is crafted from a combination of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Rolle. It captures the essence of the best terroirs of its region. Its appearance is a clear, very pale pink. The aroma is delicate yet inviting, with hints of stone fruit and a subtle floral lift. On the palate, it is dry but with a smooth finish. It offers a harmonious balance of fruit and acidity. This leads to a clean and refreshing aftertaste.
Pairing Perfection: Niçoise salad or shrimp scampi.

Belleruche Rosé—Rhône Valley, France
While often associated with the Rhône Valley, Belleruche Rosé frequently embodies the Provençal style. The 2024 vintage in the Rhône Valley was described as a “very promising” vintage despite challenging early conditions. Heavy spring rains and even hailstorms required significant vineyard work. However, the return of non-deleterious summer heat and the beneficial Mistral wind provided a long ripening period with cool nights. This led to phenolic maturity and excellent balance, resulting in high-quality whites, rosés, and reds, though yields were lower. Its appearance is a luminous, pale pink. The aroma presents a delicate bouquet of red berries and a hint of white flowers. On the palate, it is crisp and dry. It has a refreshing acidity that carries the subtle fruit notes. These elements together create a clean, elegant finish.
Anticipated Pairing: Gruyère Cheese, Grilled fish or light pasta with fresh vegetables.

Vibrant & Expressive Fruit-Forward & Aromatic Rosés
These rosés often display a more intense fruit profile. They range from bright red berries to stone fruit and possess a lively freshness. Their more pronounced fruit character can be a result of slightly longer skin contact or specific grape varieties known for their aromatic intensity. They are incredibly versatile and offer a delightful aromatic complexity.
Saracina Rosé of Grenache 2024 (750ml/$19.99)—Mendocino County, California, USA

The 2024 California winegrape harvest generally started early across many regions, including Mendocino. Following a rainy winter, a cool spring, and a warm summer, the vintage is largely reported as high quality. While yields varied, often being slightly smaller than 2023, winemakers in Mendocino are describing the 2024 wines as “bold, fruit-forward, and dynamic with deep concentration.” Growers adapted to the warmer season by carefully monitoring irrigation and picking early to retain acidity. Its appearance is a vibrant, clear pink. The aroma bursts with bright red fruit notes, particularly strawberry and raspberry. On the palate, it is juicy and expressive, with a lively freshness and a satisfying, fruit-driven finish that showcases its bold character.
Pairing Perfection: Fish Tacos or ceviche tostadas. Grilled and fresh fruit, or roasted chicken/pork.

Conde Valdemar Rosé 2024 ($17.99)—Rioja, Spain

The 2024 vintage in Rioja was notably challenging but ultimately delivered exceptional quality for those who navigated it successfully. It was the smallest harvest of the century for DOCa Rioja, experiencing significantly more rainfall than recent years. This required winemakers to act quickly, performing almost “surgical” grape sorting to select only the firmest berries. Despite reduced yields, the generous rains (after years of drought) combined with cooler temperatures led to slower ripening, ensuring higher quality with fresh, balanced, and vibrant fruit, perfect for the stylistic cut of their wines. Its appearance is a medium pale with a peachy hue. The aroma offers notes of confectionery and estery notes, hints of banana, orange and exotic fruit. On the palate, it is fresh, balanced, and vibrant, with a lively fruit expression and a clean finish, reflecting the careful selection of grapes.

Pairing Perfection: Tapas or seafood paella.
Jean Luc Colombo (Details on 2024 Rosé to follow)—Rhône Valley, France
As mentioned for Belleruche, the 2024 vintage in the Rhône Valley was a “vinegrower’s vintage.” It required immense effort due to heavy spring rains. Mildew pressure also contributed to the challenge. However, persistent effort paid off. A return to moderate summer temperatures and the Mistral wind allowed for excellent ripening. This resulted in balance.

I have been tasting Jean Luc Colombo for the past six vintages and I was enthusiastic about the 2024 vintage. Its appearance is a clear, medium pink. The aroma is intensely aromatic, with notes of red berries and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced. There is a great hint of spice. It has a good depth of fruit and a harmonious structure. This leads to a satisfying finish.
Anticipated Pairing: Grilled halloumi or chicken kebabs, Mexican tacos and rice hits the joy.

Bold & Dynamic Structured & Savory Rosés
These rosés often have more body and structure. They have a more pronounced savory or mineral character. There is sometimes even a hint of spice. This can be achieved through specific grape varieties, longer maceration times, or even some oak aging. They can stand up to richer dishes and are truly exceptional rosé options.
Planeta Rosé 2024 (750ml/$19.99)—Sicily, Italy

The 2024 grape harvest in Sicily commenced earlier than usual due to elevated temperatures and drought conditions. Despite these challenges, producers implemented adaptive measures like taller vine growth for shade and strategic irrigation. The grapes were reported to be in excellent health. Despite slightly reduced yields this early, challenging vintage emphasizes the resilience and quality focus of Sicilian winemakers. This Rosé 2024 is the first one to include Sauvignon Blanc on its blend. Its appearance is a clear, deeper pink hue. The aroma presents a complex profile. It includes notes of berries, a touch of grapefruit, and a distinct savory or mineral undertone. On the palate, it offers good minerality and acidity, with a structured body. It has a persistent, flavorful finish, showcasing the resilience of the vintage.
Pairing Perfection: Cheese and charcuterie board or roasted butternut squash.
Bertani Bertarosé 2024 (750ml/$17.99)—Lake Garda, Italy (Valpolicella region)
The 2024 vintage in the Valpolicella region (near Lake Garda) had “complex weather conditions.” This complexity arose from the continuing impact of climate change. While spring saw abundant rain, summers were hotter. However, winemakers noted “reliable late-season heat and faithful ripening,” leading to grapes reaching maturity earlier and more consistently. This requires new production skills, but the results suggest that despite the difficulties, the wines will show balanced power and perfume, making this a promising vintage. Its appearance is a clear, medium pink. The aroma is expressive, with notes of red fruit and a hint of floral perfume. On the palate, it shows balanced power and perfume, with a good structure and a clean, persistent finish, reflecting the unique conditions of the vintage.
Pairing Perfection: Grilled salmon or stuffed acorn squash.

Macari Rosé 2024—Long Island, New York, USA
The 2024 growing season on Long Island was notably warm and sunny, starting earlier than previous years. This rapid ripening caused the fruit to quickly accumulate sugars. This lead to a “bold, strong vintage for the reds.” It also created excellent conditions across varieties. While specific rosé details are forthcoming, the overall conditions suggest ripe fruit, balanced acidity, and an “exceptionally powerful, well-balanced wine” in the region for 2024. Its appearance is a clear, vibrant pink. The aroma is bold and expressive, with ripe fruit notes. On the palate, it is exceptionally powerful and well-balanced, with a structured body and a long, flavorful finish, indicative of a strong vintage.
Anticipated Pairing: Fresh mozzarella and tomato salad or grilled chicken.

Sparkling & Celebratory Effervescent Rosés
For those moments that demand a fizz and a flair, sparkling rosés bring joy and elegance to any occasion. These wines undergo a secondary fermentation to create their signature bubbles. They often use the traditional method for Champagne. This process involves aging on lees to develop complex flavors and a creamy texture.
Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Réserve Exclusive Rosé NV (750ml/$69.99)—Champagne, France

Despite being a Non-Vintage Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Réserve release focus on quality over quantity. Its appearance is a delightfully deep lively pink color. The aroma offers gorgeous rose-hip and cherry finesse and elegance. On the palate, it has dazzling raspberries and fruit acidity. It has a fine mousse and a gastronomic, savory finish.
Pairing Perfection: Savory Mussels with Cherry Tomatoes sauce, oysters or fresh sushi.

The Mindful Sip Discovering Moderato Rosé
For those seeking all the flavor and elegance without the alcohol, the burgeoning alcohol-free market presents extraordinary innovations. I have explored a couple of non alcoholic wines and now I was excited to try Moderato Rosé. Moderato is France’s best-selling alcohol-free wine, is now gracing U.S. shores. Crafted in the heart of Gascony Moderato surprised me. It is produced traditional French winemaking techniques. Also, cutting-edge de-alcoholization is also part of the process. I am very surprised by this wine. It delivers all the authentic taste and sophistication of wine with zero alcohol. Moderato reminded me the tasting notes of an IGT Mediterraneé Rosé. It offers strawberry compote, raspberries, and peach. There is a hint of minerality on the palate with good acidity. All of this comes minus the alcohol.
Pairing Perfection: Light salads, fresh fruit, or simply enjoyed on its own as a refreshing alternative.
